1. preheat the oven to 350 degrees f and line baking sheets with parchment paper
2. whisk together flour cocoa powder baking soda and salt in a bowl
3. cream butter brown sugar and granulated sugar until light and fluffy
4. beat in the egg egg yolk vanilla and peppermint extracts until combined
5. gradually add the dry ingredients and mix until just combined
6. fold in chocolate chips and mini marshmallows
7. chill the dough for 30 minutes
8. scoop dough onto prepared baking sheets spacing each 2 inches apart
9. bake for 9 to 11 minutes until edges are set and centers remain soft
10. sprinkle crushed candy canes on the hot cookies and let cool on the sheet for 5 minutes then transfer to a wire rack
