Cozy Fall Dinner with Crescent Rolls

  • Total Time: 30-35 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings 1x

Description

This recipe offers a comforting yet light fall supper, perfect for busy weeknights or relaxed Sunday evenings. It features a savory ground meat and tomato sauce baked under a flaky, cheesy crescent roll crust. It’s easy to prepare, universally appealing, and designed to leave you feeling satisfied, not stuffed.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium yellow onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 pound ground turkey or lean ground beef
  • 1 (14.5 ounce) can diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 (8 ounce) package refrigerated crescent rolls
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

  • Instructions

    1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until it softens, about 3-5 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.

    2. Add the ground turkey or beef to the skillet with the onions and garlic. Break it up with a spoon and cook until it’s no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat if necessary.

    3. Stir in the diced tomatoes (undrained), tomato sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and let it cook for 5-7 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

    4. While the sauce simmers, unroll the crescent roll dough onto a baking sheet. You can either leave it as one large sheet or separate it into individual triangles, depending on your desired presentation. If leaving as a sheet, gently press the seams together to seal.

    5. Spoon the meat mixture evenly over the crescent roll dough, leaving a small border around the edges. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over the meat mixture.

    6. Bake in a preheated oven at 375 F (190 C) for 12-15 minutes, or until the crescent rolls are golden brown and the cheese is bubbly and melted.

    7. Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving. This allows the cheese to set slightly and prevents it from falling apart.
